Parma and Parma Heights, Ohio Real Estate and Information

Located just southwest of Cleveland, Parma is the largest of the metropolitan city’s suburbs. It is also the seventh largest city in Ohio. Parma Heights is located to the west of Parma. Both Parma and Parma Heights offer safe, suburban living in close proximity to the big-city amenities of Cleveland.

Shopping and Dining.

Parma residents easily can travel into Cleveland for weekday or weekend shopping, but it isn’t necessary. Parma real estate provides ample shopping and dining opportunities for city residents. Parmatown Mall features dozens of stores, including JC Penny, Walmart, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Bath & Body Works, Fredericks of Hollywood, Victoria’s Secret, The Children’s Place, and GNC. For antiques, great deals, and unique pieces, residents head to Seconds City Consignment Home Furnishings on Pearl Road. Snow Road and State Road are also home to many shops and service establishments. Little Polish Diner, Charm Thai, and Vivo Italian restaurant are three of Parma’s most popular local restaurants. Additional restaurants and pubs include Post & Beam, Grandma Helen’s Pizza, Seoul Garden, Tony’s Family Restaurant, Rudy’s Strudel Shop & Bakery, Kumo Japanese Seafood Buffett, Outback Steakhouse, Luchitas Mexican Restaurant, Boston Market, Olive Garden, Burger King, Chipotle, KFC, and Marco’s Pizza.

Parks and Recreation.

Located in hilly Veterans Memorial Park, the 18-hole Parma Disc Golf Course winds through beautiful woods. A one-mile walking and biking path surrounds the course. Baseball fields, tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, and a playground are located nearby. The Michael A. Ries Park in downtown Parma features five ball fields, tennis and basketball courts, and a seasonal ice-skating rink. Parma also is home to several outdoor pools and the 18-hole Ridgewood Golf Course. Horseshoes and bocce ball are available at Senior Citizens Park. Thanks to an agreement between the two neighboring cities, Parma residents also have access to the Seven Hills Community Recreation Center, which features an indoor pool, weight and cardio rooms, group exercise classes, two gymnasiums, and a childcare room. The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is located just three miles north of Parma. For summertime enjoyment, there’s nothing quite like water activities on Lake Erie, located less than ten miles from Parma and Parma Heights.

Living.

Parma and Parma Heights are exceptionally livable cities with low crime rates, good job growth, affordable housing, and great local amenities. With a population of 81,601 people, Parma is one of the safest cities in the United States for its size. Parma Heights is much smaller, with a population of only 20,718. Median home cost in Parma in 2012 was $87,800. Median home cost in Parma Heights in 2012 was $91,700.

Schools, Health, and Transportation.

Parma and Parma Heights both are served by the award-winning Parma City School District. The district operates more than a dozen schools in Parma and Parma Heights, including two middle schools and three high schools. Children in Parma attend either Parma Senior High School or Normandy High School. Children in Parma Heights attend Valley Forge High School. Adult students have a wide range of options for higher education in the area. Baldwin-Wallace University, Cuyahoga Community College District, Cleveland State University, John Carroll University, and the University of Akron are all less than 30 miles from Parma.

Parma Community General Hospital provides outpatient care, emergency services, and specialized care to area residents. Specialties include robotic surgery, 3DHD surgery, orthopedics, bariatrics, and women’s maternity care. There’s also a Heart and Vascular Center and a Cancer Center at the hospital. The Kaiser Permanente Parma Medical Center offers emergency care services 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Parma is centrally located near numerous highways, including I-480 and State Routes 3, 94, 176, and 17. Commuters who don’t want to drive can travel into Cleveland and the surrounding cities via the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority. Several Amtrak stations and the Cleveland-Hopkins International Airport also are within easy driving distance.
