Brooklyn is a small, inner-ring suburb located less than five miles from downtown Cleveland. Approximately 4.5 square miles in size and home to around 11,169 people, Brooklyn offers a friendly small-town environment in the center of a thriving metropolitan area.

Shopping and Dining

Brooklyn is home to a number of shops and restaurants. Ridge Park Square shopping center is anchored by Lowe’s, Marc’s, Michaels, Bed Bath & Beyond, TJ Maxx, Valu King, and an AMC Theatre. Additional stores include Five Below, Pet Supplies Plus, Famous Footwear, and Dress Barn. Local eateries include Aldo’s Italian restaurant and Hooley House. There’s also Carraba’s Italian Grill, Cracker Barrel, El Tolteca Mexican Grill, Texas Roadhouse, and various fast food restaurants. Additional shops and restaurants can be found three miles away in Parma. The Parmatown Mall features approximately 150 stores and restaurants, including JCPenny, WalMart, Victoria’s Secret, Children’s Place, Champs, Sporting Goods, Dick’s Sporting Goods, China Max, Sakkio Japan, GNC, and RadioShack.

Parks and Recreation

Brooklyn real estate includes several city and neighborhood parks perfect for enjoying the city’s mild summers and snow-filled winters. Veterans Memorial Park is a 75-acre park located behind City Hall. The park is split into two sections, Upper and Lower Veterans Memorial Park, and features baseball diamonds, tennis courts, in-line skating, deck hockey, shuffleboard, golf, basketball courts, playground equipment, swings, pavilions, and a multi-purpose trail that connects the park to the surrounding neighborhoods. Veterans Memorial Park also is home to the Brooklyn Recreation Center. The center includes a skating rink, indoor and outdoor pools, a small children’s wading pool, a steam room and sauna, cardio equipment, and a whirlpool. Marquardt Park features a soccer field, a baseball diamond, playground equipment, open spaces, and walking trails. An additional children’s playground is available at James P. Brock Memorial Playground at the southeast corner of Ridge Road and Vandalia Avenue. The Memphis Kiddie Park offers 11 amusement park rides for kids. It’s also home to an arcade and a miniature golf course. Sports leagues in town include youth soccer, baseball, swim, and basketball programs. Competitive figure skating is also available at the recreation center through Brooklyn Blades on Ice. Brooklyn real estate also includes 37-acres of the 135-acre Big Creek Reservation. The reservation features acres of beautiful headwater wetlands and serves as an urban sanctuary for many wild animals. The reservation’s all-purpose trail runs between Lake Abram and Lake Isaac and connects to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.

Brooklyn, Ohio boasts a low cost of living, high graduation rates, a stable housing market, high income per capita, and lots of local amenities. Schools, Health, and Transportation

The Brooklyn City Schools district operates three public schools in town: Brookridge Elementary School, Brooklyn Middle School, and Brooklyn High School. Parochial schools in Brooklyn include the St. Thomas More School, which serves children from pre-kindergarten through 8th grade, and Heritage Christian School, which serves children from kindergarten through high school. Brooklyn also is home to the Kaplan Career Institute. Additional colleges and universities, including Cuyahoga Community College District and Cleveland State University, are located just minutes away in Cleveland. Also located just minutes from Brooklyn are three hospitals: Metro Health Medical Center, Fairview Hospital, and Parma Community General Hospital. All three hospitals provide acute care and emergency services to area residents. Traveling from Brooklyn to any of the surrounding areas is simple thanks to good highway access and exceptional public transportation. The city is conveniently located next to two major highways: I-71 and I-480. The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority provides bus and rail services throughout the metropolitan area. The Amtrak station in Cleveland is located approximately five miles from Brooklyn’s city center. The Cleveland-Hopkins International Airport is also approximately five miles from Brooklyn.
